Online Curriculum Information for 2012-2013

Another year has passed, and our number of subscribers continues to increase. We hear comments like “I wouldn’t teach this course without your online curriculum.” “There’s more than I can get to. Thanks for giving me so many choices.” “My students love the variety of activities.”

We’ve made some changes to meet your needs. Instead of subscriptions running from August 1 to July 31, you can start on any day and the subscription will last for 12 months. This way you can start January 1 (when you are surprised with new class assignments) or June 1 (if you want to prepare over the summer) or any other day of the year. Plus, we are adding new courses and updating previous courses.

Common Career Technical Core – Public Input Requested

The National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc) is seeking public input on the Common Career Technical Core (CCTC), a set of shared state standards for Career Technical Education (CTE) designed to help ensure all CTE students have access to high-quality, rigorous, career-focused learning opportunities in every state, and every community across the nation.

The public comment period ends this Friday, May 11, 2012. All CTE stakeholders, including educators, administrators, and industry are urged to provide input by using the CCTC Public Comment webpage at: http://www.careertech.org/career-technical-education/cctc/publiccomment.html. More detailed guidelines about submitting feedback, as well as direct links to each set of standards can be found on the webpage.

Putting It All Together: Education and Training Book

I received the following comments about the book, Putting It All Together: Education and Training, and wanted to share them.

“Last year was the first year that I had students test for Early Childhood and Education Fundamentals with AAFCS. All three students received their certificates, and I truly believe the book Putting It All Together was part of their success. I must add that what I really appreciate about the book is that it is very TEK specific as far as major concepts and vocabulary. What it lacks in color and print; it totally makes up in its illustrations, figures, tables and pictures in capturing and summarizing the chapter content. An added plus, are the online videos, homework practice and assessments.”

Directions for using the online registration system:

Your E-Mail address is your user name and either your work or home email address will allow you access. If you were in the previous data base for conference registration, your school and home E-Mail address are already in the system. If you have changed your E-Mail since you accessed the conference data base, you will have to call us to get it updated.

The first time you access the system you will need to click on the “Forgot Password” link at the top of the screen. The system will ask you to enter your E-Mail address and a temporary password will be sent to you at that address. It generally takes about a couple of minutes to get the temporary password. Please use an E-Mail address that is not being blocked by your district.

If you have never created an account on the conference registration data base, you will need to Enroll in the system by clicking Enroll on the menu bar at the top. You will be asked to provide your contact information, select your certifications and teaching assignments, and select your district and campus.

When you select a district and a campus, the campus address will automatically be entered unless you are teaching at a new school that has not been entered into the system. Send an E-Mail to fcstat@sbcglobal.net if your school is not listed and the information will be added.

Please update your contact information and confirm it. You will then be allowed to register for the conference. If you have any problems, please send an E-Mail to fcstat@sbcglobal.net and we will contact you by phone or send an answer by E-Mail.

Please provide a phone number and best time of day to call.

The CONCURRENT SESSIONS will be posted on the FCSTAT web site as soon as they are completed. There are still a few slots that need to be filled. If you are interested in presenting or know someone who is a potential presenter, please ask them to contact us, or send their information and we will contact them.

Online Graduate Course on Advising FCCLA to be Offered

The Texas Tech University Graduate Program in Family and Consumer Sciences Education will be offering an online course focused on Advising FCCLA Chapters during the first summer session, June 5th-July 6th.

This course is open to any graduate-level student interested in learning more about FCCLA. The course would be an appropriate elective in a post-baccalaureate FCS Education teacher preparation program, an FCS Education Master’s program (check with your adviser), or anyone interested in learning more about advising FCCLA chapters.

Enrollment will require that a student apply for graduate temporary admission at Texas Tech, http://www.depts.ttu.edu/gradschool/admissions/how.php.

The cost (tuition and fees) for the course is approximately $1,200, and it will be worth 3 credit hours. Tuition and fee estimate is based upon Texas Residency. IF you are not a resident of Texas, please contact Dr. Karen Alexander for other enrollment options.

Students will be expected to purchase FCCLA related educational materials for their textbooks and a web camera with microphone headset.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the FCCLA organization and its programs to new advisers or advisers and classroom teachers who want to learn more about the organization. FCCLA is the national career and technical education organization for students enrolled in Family and Consumer Sciences Education through grade twelve. Topics include history and philosophy of FCCLA, affiliating and governing a chapter, educational and service related projects, individual and chapter STAR Events, integrating FCCLA activities with the FCS curriculum, educational and support materials, and publicizing and promoting FCCLA.
